Chiropractic More Effective than Drugs for Back Pain

Here in our Jacksonville and Fleming Island practice, Dr. Fritz has helped several people recover from back problems. If you are struggling with back pain, you've most likely been tempted to take drugs to decrease the discomfort. You should understand that studies have shown that chiropractic is usually a better alternative than drugs when it comes to alleviating this specific type of problem.

In a report published in the medical journal Spine experts included 101 subjects who had experienced back pain for more than 48 hours. Each individual was then designated to one of three groups. The first group, which was made up of 37 patients, received chiropractic treatment and a placebo of the drug diclofenac. The second group of 38 individuals received sham chiropractic treatments and the genuine drug. The third group of 25 subjects served as the control as those subjects engaged in sham chiropractic and also received the placebo, thus having no real care whatsoever.

Both of the groups that received some type of treatment, whether through chiropractic care or the drug diclofenac, fared better than the control subjects who had no actual therapy. However, when the two active groups were compared to one another, the people who received chiropractic adjustments had results that were "significantly better" than those who took the medications.

Chiropractic Promotes Natural Healing

Because chiropractic is non-invasive and involves no use of medication, it helps enhance healing without adverse effects. For instance, anti-inflammatory drugs can result in ulcers, high blood pressure, and other serious health concerns. Plus, the benefits of chiropractic care last longer as it's intended to resolve the source of the problem, not just treat the signs and symptoms.
